| J&K Pradesh Congress Committee; A band of losers! | | | Kr Swarn Kishore Singh | 5/19/2015 11:52:52 PM |
| As much as I know politics in a democracy, it is a medium of serving people as per their wishes and for their good. And what they wish can be determined by the way they vote. The person they vote and elect is their voice and whatever he speaks for, reflects the wishes of his people & the person who loses, is the one for whom it could be easily inferred that he was considered worth enough to represent the lot. Although in modern day politics, electoral politics is not that dominant ingredient, as it used to be earlier. It is a time when we got a Prime Minister from Rajya Sabha, who notably lasted for a decade. But when I came across the list of office bearers of Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, it was really astonishing for me. And to be very frank, the only adjective which crossed my mind was "a band of losers". I was scanning the list with utmost curiosity, as I had got to know that after the self imposed hiatus, Rahul Gandhi is calling the shots and he is having a vision of grooming some powerful state netas. Expecting some fresh blood, I got to know that a guy who was not found to be well enough to represent the oldest party of India in his home constituency is now captaining it for the whole state. To bring more disgrace to the party, he is the one who was jailed not for some noble cause but for the most infamous scandal which has ever hit Kashmir i.e. Kashmir sex scandal. Although this should not have surprised me because a party which had ND Tiwari as contender for PM post in 1990's, Abhishek Manu Singhvi as Chief spokesperson can easily have GM Mir and Raman Matto in their state body. Moving downwards the list, Sham Lal Sharma, known for his colourful tees in public meetings got anointed as senior vice president. The post in itself is even more anomalous than its selectee. Sharma was not even able to secure his own seat even after being considered as one of the most powerful cabinet minister in the earlier govt. If I am not wrong only two legislators got a place in the list which are more or less obsolete. Mr Saroori became VP & the wonder guy Usman Abdul Majeed became Gen. Secretary. Winning on a Congress ticket from Sopore, the constituency which housed Afzal Guru is nothing than a wonder. To me these posts seem more of consolation prize than any responsibility. Whereas losers like R.S. Chib, Taj Mohi-ud-din, Tara Chand etc are anointed with some substantial posts. It was expected earlier that the famous Azad camp & Soz camp have been churned thoroughly and the new body is comprising of the most incompetent and incompatible among the lot, bcoz competence of any local leader can prove to be a threat to the authority of GNA( Ghulam Nabi Azad was referred as GNA in Radia tapes leak). A congress insider had even told me that GNA had played a lot of foul in distribution of tickets in recently concluded assembly elections. I will be citing an example in support of my averment; the ticket of Jammu east & Surankote was quid-pro-quo between Azad & Soz. GNA agreed to ignore Yogesh Sahwney in Jammu East for Soz to agree on Akram Chaud-hary for Surankote. Both the ignored candidates were sort of dedicated Congress man. One of them Yogesh Sawhney is a former minister and the other Shahnawaz Chaudhary was state president of youth Congress; both were ignored just to exalt the congressi legacy of valuing henchman-ship over competence. Shahnawaz Chaudhary was doing well with the relief work (in the aftermath of floods in October) disguised in election campaign, when suddenly he was denied a ticket. I got to know that even Rahul Gandhi & Sonia Gandhi had visited the medical & relief camps installed by him. But GNA by keeping Ambika Soni in dark colluded with the committee to secure a ticket for a son of his closed one Chaudhary Mohd Aslam who died last year. In short GNA used a congress ticket as a Sharadhanjali to his deceased friend. Competence rules this body so much that stalwarts like Vikar Rasool Wani, Ajaz Khan & Rigzin Jora, all of them are at the minimum two times MLA and former minister are absent from the list. They all are electorally sound but GNA never likes people who are electorally strong because he himself is not known for this thing. He is a guy who is considered as face of J&K Congress but has never won any elections but once when he was already imported as CM of J&K. His mettle in J&K politics was proved last year when a guy who had never before contested any election decimated him. Not much of popular representation for Kashmir as well where their candidates performed intriguingly well. But the chaps who found place in the body are Salman Nizami & Nadim Shareif. Salman Nizami, who sometimes ago used to flirt with the former CM of J&K found eternity in Congress. When I asked a very close Congress friend of mine, who chooses to stay off the record; described him as a guy who masters in bluffing. This term was justified when I met Kashmir students who were protesting at Jantar Mantar, who told me that Salman Nizami had introduced himself as political advisor to GNA. Now this could be answered by GNA himself what is Salman Nizami to him, but still such a thing has not reached public domain that Nizami is so-called political advisor to Such is the intellectual bankruptcy in their leadership that one of their publicity secretaries, Mr Nadim Shareif is not able to even distinguish between Congress & Constituent Assembly. He had made a stated on a social networking site that "I acknowledge him (Narendra Modi) since he has got this post through democratic constitution framed by Congress" (sic). Either he is living in United States where the Congress is the legislating body or he is simply a nincompoop. Sometimes I even suspect Congress consoled Sharief Niaz for losing assembly elections with a post for his son. I had heard that Rahul Gandhi vowed to groom state netas and Gandhi if such is your realisation of your vow then status quo was a better option to opt for.
