PIB organizes 'Vartalap' rural media workshop at Anantnag | | | Early Times Report Anantnag, May 23: Press information Bureau (PIB) on Saturday organized 'Vartalap' workshop on Rural Media at Govt. Degree College here in Anantnag. ADG, PIB Obaidur Rahman, Director Information Muneer-ul-Islam, Deputy Director DDK, Srinagar Shafiq Qureshi, Haroon Rashid Special correspondent, The Pioneer, MA Tantray Assistant director (News) AIR, Srinagar besides number of journalists working in Anantnag and Kulgam districts attended the workshop. ADG, PIB Obaidur Rahman inaugurated the workshop and presented the aims and objectives of Press Information Bureau as well as of 'Vartalap'-The Rural Media workshop. "This is for the first time that we are organizing a workshop for the journalists who are working in rural areas. Our aim is to make you aware of the role which you have to play for uplifting the socio-economic status of the rural population," Obaidur Rahman said in his inaugural speech. While addressing the gathering, Obaidur Rahman said, "Central government has started number of schemes in the state but due to lack of journalists in highlighting these schemes, common people aren't benefits from them. If journalists working in rural areas report the results and outcome of these centrally sponsored schemes more and more people will come forward and can avail benefits." He also assured resolutions of problems which journalists working in rural areas face. "I can't rectify what happened in past but now I will ensure accreditation of journalists working in rural areas according to norms." He said, adding information department is planning to give registration to feature agencies in Kashmir for boosting rural journalism. In his speech, Director Information Muneer-ul-Islam, deliberating on the topic of role of rural media in Socio-economic development of state, he said, "Kashmir is the only part of the country where hard news always remains in focus but the journalists working in rural areas also has the responsibility of reporting issues which rural people face especially in agriculture, horticulture and allied sectors." During the day-long workshop, participants deliberated on various topics. These included role of media in socio-economic development of Jammu and Kashmir, Rural communication and fast growing electronic media, safeguards for media reporting in disturbed areas like Kashmir, PIB information flow and role of rural journalism, importance of regional press viz-a-viz Kashmir tourism, emergence of social media and its impacts and rural journalism and Kashmir calamities. |
