Nirmal for modernising Srinagar, has no plans for Jammu? | Dy CM to contest election from Langate | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 24: BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh has turned out to be a "great asset for Kashmir". This is what the people of Jammu, including many in the BJP, have come to believe and say. During the past more than 80 days, Nirmal Singh has behaved as if he represents Kashmir in the Cabinet, in the Council of Ministers and in Jammu and that he has forgotten the constituency in Jammu that brought him, nay the BJP, into power in J&K. It was Nirmal Singh who condemned the NC and the Congress for the so-called transfer of power projects to the NHPC/Delhi and has repeatedly asked New Delhi to return the NHPC-run and managed power projects to the J&K Government. He has gone to extent of accusing "they" (India) of using our land and water" to connect himself with Kashmiri leaders of all hues, including separatists and Pakistani agents. It was Nirmal Singh who practically endorsed the view of its coalition partner that had Pakistan and its assets like terrorists in this and other part of the state and Hurriyat Conference not cooperated, there would not have been large scale participation of people in the election. He didn't contest the statement that was made in his presence the day the coalition government was formed in J&K. Similarly, he also sided with the PDP when it said that the AIIMS will be established in Kashmir. He not only endorsed the stand of the PDP, but also went to the extent of telling the people of Jammu province that "the AIIIMS will not be established in Jammu". Not just that, he also kept mum when the PDP made an anti-Jammu statement in his presence that the "AIIMS will be established in Kashmir and the artificial lake project in Jammu could shelved". And on Saturday, Nirmal Singh, who, according to former Congress Minister Sham Lal Sharma, will "contest the next Assembly election from the Langate Assembly constituency in Kashmir", gave instructions to the concerned officials that they should prepare a "comprehensive and futuristic Master Plan for Srinagar" while speaking at the inaugural function of 3-day seminar-cum-workshop organised by the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) to deliberate on Srinagar Master Plan currently under preparation. "The experts working on drafting the new Master Plan should take the parameters of ecology, population and other related parameters into consideration while coming up with the new document so that it can be more specific to the needs of the people as well as the posterity," he said. He issued directions to the concerned officials when the agitating people of Jammu were discussing the ways and means to force the biased and vindictive authorities to establish the proposed AIIMS in Jammu. Someone rightly observed on Saturday during the Coordination Committee meeting, which is spearheading the movement for establishment of AIIMS in Jammu and completion of the ongoing artificial lake project on Tawi, as "Deputy Chief Minister of the PDP and Kashmir". Indeed, the BJP Ministers, and the BJP as a party have put the people of Jammu region on a warpath to cultivate those in Kashmir who are anti-national, pro-Pakistan and hostile towards Jammu and Ladakh. |
