DB directs 2 DCs, CE of I&FC to appear in person over 'Jhelum management' | Issues warrants against engineers managing 'Padshahi canal' | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 29: Division Bench of the court comprising Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey has directed Deputy Commissioners Anantnag and Pulwama as well as Chief Engineer (CE) Irrigation and Flood Control Department to appear in person before the court on June 10, in connection with the restoration of river Jhelum. Meantime the court also directed its registry to issue bailable warrants to secure presence of engineers responsible for maintaining and preserving Padshahi canal from 1990 on the next date of hearing. While hearing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL), the Division Bench (DB) of the court comprising Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey also directed the concerned Deputy Commissioners to file status report in regard to restoration of the Jhelum waters. The court directions also followed perusal of a compliance report Deputy Commissioner Anantnag which it observed was cryptic and vogue. Likewise, the court said, all other Deputy Commissioners including that of Srinagar and Bandipora shall file fresh status report. The court also directed the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and the Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, to appear in person before the court on next date of hearing. Meanwhile, the court has directed its registry to issue bailable warrants in the amount of Rs 50,000/= to secure presence of engineers who were responsible for maintaining and preserving Padshahi canal in Srinagar from 1990. The bench also directed Executive Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control Ganderbal to appear in person before the court on June 10. |
