Natrang inaugurates 40-day theatre workshop for children | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 8: A 40 days 'Natrang's Summer Theatre Workshop for Children' inaugurated here today at Natrang studio Theatre, Kachi Chawni with the lighting of traditional lamp by Natrang Director Balwant Thakur. According to press release, this is the Silver Jubilee Year of Natrang's Children Theatre Wing which was started in the year 1990 and from then, it is a regular feature of Natrang's activities. "The period of Summers Vacations is especially dedicated for Children Theatre every year by Natrang as this is the only time when the children have so many days in continuity to learn and improve their personalities in a fun-filled ambience", he said. The children Theatre Camp-2015 is also special as Devika Ranjan a US citizen with Indian origin would conduct classes in the first week of the workshop. She is a visiting scholar from the United States, she is researching Natrang's use of theatre in community engagement. She Studies at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, Washington DC where she focuses on "Human Rights, Culture, and Communication." She has a strong theatrical background in acting at both a community and university level. She has directed two full-length plays, devised a work based on ethnographic poetry, and written a one-act play. Other than this, Children would be exposed to various theatre games and activities which help in grooming their personalities. A full-length play would also be prepared by the participants during this workshop which would be presented before the larger number of audience, who get a chance to watch a wonderful children's play every year as the outcome of the summer theatre camp. |
