Outcry over Edu Minister's transfer policy grows shriller | | | Abdul Majid Early Times Report Srinagar, June 8: The public outcry over Education Minister Syed Naeem Akhtar Andrabi's 'arbitrary' policy on transfer of schoolteachers in the state is getting shriller by the day. After statement from the separatists that Andrabi was deliberately transferring female teachers to far off places to make them vulnerable to threat of sorts, various teachers bodies in the Valley have taken him head on. J&K Teachers Forum (JKTF) president and head of the Employees Joint Action Committee, Abdul Qayoom Wani, said that teachers were being "humiliated" in the name of "rationalization". Wani said in a handout, "No one would be allowed to play with the career of the students in the name of rationalization." He said that in absence of the clear-cut transfer policy, the political interference and nepotism is at its peak. "The rationalization in primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools should be made on the strength of classes and not on roll. If it is not done, it would be sheer injustice with the students and their career," Wani said. He said the "teachers are well aware and well conscious of their duties, and in odd times they delivered well and despite non-payment of salaries they kept the candle of knowledge aglow." The Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers are also up in arms. J&K ReT Teachers Forum (RTF) in a statement expressed concern over the mass transfer of teachers of the Education department, terming it illogical and unjustified. RTF chairman FA Tantray said, "These transfers were done in the name of rationalization but they will pave way for corruption, favouritism and nepotism." "The transfers along with posts are illogical and unjustified. When proper transfer policy is in place, what is the need of rationalization? The J&K High Court vacated stay over the transfers of ReT teachers in April and directed Education department to implement government order No. 469, but unfortunately delay policy was adopted by the department," he said. The reaction from teaching fraternity has come a day after Hurriyat Conference (Geelani faction) accused the Education Minister of deliberately transferring teachers to far off places. Expressing "serious concern over the mass transfer of female teachers", the Hurriyat termed it a 'well planned conspiracy' being implemented by Naeem Akhtar. "Reports are coming about the transfers of female teachers to the far off places and inaccessible places, and such steps are nothing but a conspiracy to perturb the Muslim women further… already the hardships being faced by the women folk are numerous and this new trend initiated by Akhtar has only vindicated the new policy of this government," a Hurriyat spokesman said. As already reported by Early Times, Akhtar is understood to have got scores of teachers transferred to far off places, around 40-60 kilometers from their residences. Despite repeated attempts, the Education Minister could not be contacted for his comments. |
