| Non Political platform on Baig's name works swiftly than political parties | | Registers grievances of people online, seeks redressal from power corridors | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 8: What PDP as biggest mainstream party could not achieve in years, one of its tallest leader and a stalwart unto himself Muzaffar Hussain Baig has been able to do, albeit through a non political platform. Gaining acclaim and huge popularity apart, this platform through its website registers grievances of people every day online and tries to find solutions from concerned quarters in the government. PDP as the parent party has not yet been able to update itself through website , not to speak of other contemporary parties like NC or Congress , not even its ally in government BJP.
PDP as the political party has indeed established strong by way of hierarchical designations both in Kashmir and Jammu but none of the leaders at the local level has been able to extend their reach or access to people as swiftly as this non political platform pre fixed with Baig's name has been able to do in just couple of years. Christened as Baig's Friend's Club , this non political group has outreached surprisingly more in Jammu than Kashmir from where Muzaffar Baig hails. From commoners to prominent people from Jammu, the club has a strong numbered membership which keeps growing every month on account of popularity mainly because of its non political tag. The club has its website and has established online grievances cell where it invites people to register their day to day problems.
Since Baig belongs to one of ruling parties and has his own stature too as MP and senior leader of the party, those at the helm of Club try to get the problems of people redressed . The Club has one more interesting aspect in terms of registering grievances of people- it accepts any grievance except those issues related to transfers of people, says one of the member of the club, contending that the club doesn't consider it as public issue nor anything which comes under the ambit of social work , environment issues, issues related to corruption etc for which the club mainly works. While Navin Jain, who hails from Jammu is the founder of the Club , interesting part also remains that ex Mayor Narinder Singh is the convenor besides people from other parties to tag on it, this being a non political platform to express views and grievances. It has created a space for blogs too on which people write on social and current political matters but what makes its
popular is the online grievance registering cell and active mode of those at the helm in seeking solutions from power corridors.
"it is not so easy to get problems of people solved, no matter how genuine these may be or how so ever a small dimension of the problem may be, said the Club member….. more often than not some ministers stall the process unnecessarily because they refuse to acknowledge or digest the popularity of the club.., he added. It is not that Baig keeps distance from the club.He keeps a close watch of the activities of the club and sees to it that the non political platform on his name works well in the desired direction and for the purpose it was set up. At present it has as many as 23000 members and it aims to increase the same up to one lakh. The club has also focus in redressing the problems of aged and infirm, besides encouraging talented and meritorious children from lower strata of society. |
