Minister SW wakes up to sub standard supplies to Anganwaris | Rubbishes nutrition test report | | Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report jammu, June 8: Casting aspersions on the accountability and integrity of local testing laboratory, Minister for Social and Welfare Department Bali Bhagat said that he had doubted the results of the quality tests conducted by the laboratory on edible items supplied to the Anganwaris of the state. On being asked, all samples had been found sub-standard expect Jammu district's samples, Minister replied that, "I have doubt on the working of Jammu laboratory and it might be in nexus with the companies who are supplying nutrition items in state Anganwadis," he alleged and said the department would take samples from different companies before tendering and it will be sent to laboratories outside the state for quality check. He further said that the department had directed all district procurement committees to adopt e-tendering. Sources infromed Early Times that quality of food stuff supplied to Anganwadi Centres in Jammu and Kashmir is very poor , and in fact it could prove a health hazard for the children. Some laboratory tests found that the food lacks nutrition, is cooked in an unhygienic manner. Recently the department had found that suji, pulses, oil, grams and mustard oil being used in the Anganwadis in Samba was sub-stranded. The nutrients supplied to the Anganwadi Centres are sub-standard and at times unfit for human consumption. |
