Kishtwar, June 8: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) District unit Kishtwar today criticized the General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) for its alleged poor quality work in various road projects and environmental degradation in entire Chenab valley belt and sought a probe against said agency for using of substandard material in construction of projects undertaken in Chenab region.
While addressing a press conference today at Dak Banglow Kishtwar, PDP Youth leader Wasil Dolwall said, "GREF which is primary responsible for the present state of affairs of Batote-Kishtwar National Highway but the road stretch has suffered extensive damages in recent past due to use of sub standard material.'
"This mal practice not only led to damages to the highway but has also led to huge loss to the sate exchequer," said PDP leader further alleging, "Engineers from GREF also failed to maintain the grade of these roads as result of which the road caved in at many places, thus making these roads Kishtwar-Batote, Kishtwar, Padder and Kishtwar-Sinthan roads vulnerable to accidents.
"It is surprising that telecom agencies were allowed to lay optical cable on the river side in violation of rules and regulations," said PDP leader,
He said, "Even though state government has transferred the road to R&B department, but the GREF can't be allowed to go scot free for its brazen act of financial embezzlement and a probe is required not only to see financial misappropriation but also to make agency accountable for using substandard material in construction works."
Showing concerns over degradation of environment by allowing illegal stone query by GREF on Kishtwar-Padder road, he alleged that due to illegal extraction of stone, many houses around Cherhar and its adjoining areas have suffered damages and demanded immediate stopping of illegal extraction of stones on Kishtwar-Padder road. He also alleged that human resources engaged with GREF are also being exploited by the employer agency. He said that District PDP unit has taken up the matter with senior party leaders and said that party will soon approach the union government in this regard
Others namely Rashid Lone, Syed Irfan Shah and Sugreev Kumar also accompanied Dolwall during this media conference.
