After failing in Sopore, Police make big money from Cricket | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 18: Even as the police have been accused of total failure to solve the mystery shrouding the Sopore killings, it (police) has excelled on another front. The Police have succeeded in making huge money from a cricket tournament organised by the men in uniform. According to reports, the police has raised one crore from the teams and the sponsors. The tournament has been a grand success with Rs 27 lakh being given as prize money. The winning team got rs 5 lakhs. The organisers had prises for man of the match, maximum sixes, 5 wicket haul and scoring fifties. A former ranji player of the state said tghe tournament was big and a grand success. He compared the tournament to IPL. The players said that every team that participated in the tournament paid around 3.25 lakhs. However, the police provided coloured uniforms to all the teams and the equipment needed for the game. it is believed that the aim ofthe tournament was to create the best team comprising of the best players. The organisers intend to invite the Air India team shortly which will form the third team to play the winners and the runners up. |
