US should stop military & economic aid to Pak | | | If the US State Department report is to be believed India continues to be the target of armed strikes by terrorists from Pakistan and Maoist insurgents besides domestic and transnational groups of militants. In fact the biggest challenge comes from Pakistan where the establishment in Islamabad, including the Army, have not been able to bridle, tame and eliminate terrorists, especially those belonging to the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit. The Army in Pakistan carries out anti-terrorist operations whenever the Army or the Government find it difficult to stomach the attacks launched on the security forces,Army convoys, camps and other political leaders besides religious places. If Pakistan feels upset over the activities of some terrorist groups Islamabad is being blamed for reaping the crop for which it had sown the seed.About 30 years years ago the Army and the ISI,besides other extremist groups, imparted arms training to groups of youth including some Sikh youths from Punjab for the purpose of sowing the seeds of insurgency in Punjab state of India. After New Delhi was able to tame these Sikh insurgents, agencies across the LOC started training another set of boys, some from Jammu and Kashmir state,in arms training camps. The purpose was to sow seeds of insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. And for the last 25 years people in Jammu and Kashmir, the State and Central Governments have been facing the brunt of Pakistan sponsored proxy war against India in Jammu and Kashmir. And despite repeated pleas from India for initiating action against terrorists and their handlers Pakistan has not, so far, responded positively to these pleas.Pakistan has not taken action against LeT as the terror group continues to "operate, train, rally, propagandise and fundraise" in the country, according to a US State Department report which acknowledged that India remains one of the most persistent terror targets."The Pakistani military undertook operations against groups that conducted attacks within Pakistan such as TTP (Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan), but did not take action against other groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, which continued to operate, train, rally, propagandise and fundraise in Pakistan," the State Department said in its annual report on terrorism for the year 2014. Afghan Taliban and Haqqani network leadership continued to find safe haven in Pakistan and although the country's military operations disrupted the actions of these groups, it did not directly target them, the report said.It said India remained a target of terrorist attacks, including operations launched by Maoist insurgents and domestic and transnational groups. Despite these irritants caused to India by Islamabad, Pakistan still claims that it is keen to promote friendly ties with India. What seems to be funny is the way Islamabad reacted angrily over Indian Army's Anti-insurgency operations inside the Myanmar border belt. These terrorists or insurgents would invariably cross over to Myanmar from some North eastern region after carrying out armed strikes against the Army, Paramilitary forces and civilians. The Indian operation was launched after 18 Indian soldiers had been eliminated in a major strike on an Army convoy in Manipur. If Pakistan has been troubled,as Islamabad claims,by the activities of terrorists it should have supported India's decision to carry out operations against the insurgents ,who had carved out hideouts in Myanmar.Instead it threatened India with nuclear weapon strike if the Indian Army thought of repeating Myanmar type operations in Pakistan. And if the US State Department believes that India continues to be the target of attack from terrorists, camping in Pakistan, Washington should initiate measures that could force Islamabad to start Anti-insurgency operations on a massive scale within Pakistan. This can be possible if Washington stopped all military and non-military aid to Pakistan. |
