Most ministers want to be Deputy CM | Cracks in BJP wide, open | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 21: Cracks within the BJP leadership in Jammu and Kashmir are wide and open as the party ministers have failed to act as a single unit and all of them are trying to project themselves as bigger than the party. Sources told Early Times that since the day Durbar has opened in the summer capital BJP ministers have not even met on a single occasion to discuss the strategy or the important points necessary to run the government. "It's unfortunate that despite representing the same party BJP ministers can't sit with each other under one roof. All the ministers think that they are the kings and if they share a common stage with each other it would be against their honour and dignity," said an insider. "The ego of the BJP ministers is bigger than anything else." He said BJP ministers are mostly seen with the PDP leaders and they wait for a chance to oblige them. "It's our dharma to oblige our coalition partner that's why we never say no to them," said a close aide of a BJP minister. "All the BJP ministers believe that they are the tallest leaders in their party and want others to flock around them rather than them running after anyone," said a critic. He said that BJP high command nominating Dr Nirmal Singh as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state has not gone well with many BJP leaders who were eyeing the post. "None of the BJP ministers, barring a few, are comfortable with Dr Singh. Most of them believe that they should have been occupying Singh's chair," the critic added. He said the BJP leaders would have to pay a heavy price for lack of coordination among them as people are watching them. "Since the day BJP has become the part of the state government in JK it has failed to function as a single unit. BJP ministers seem to have lost the plot and are not showing any keenness to deal with the issues which led to their victory in 2014 assembly polls," the critic added. Sources said that after lot of persuasion from the party workers in Srinagar the BJP ministers, have decided to meet the common people once in a week. "We had promised the people that BJP ministers would remain available soon after the Durbar reopens in Srinagar but we have failed to keep up our word. We are hoping that this time around our ministers don't change their mind and start meeting people," said a BJP activist. He said that BJP had set up a grievance cell last month to look into the issues of people but till date the cell has not started functioning. "If BJP leaders don't address these burning issues forthwith it can lead to people losing faith over the party. The biggest issue confronting the party at this point of time is lack of discipline and unity among the party ministers, they have to shun their differences if they want BJP to make its presence felt in Kashmir," the party activist said, adding, "If ministers don't give up their rigidity party should forget about opening its account in Kashmir."
