Fierce gun battle breaks out between security forces, separatist guerrillas in J&K | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 21: A fierce gun battle broke between security officials and separatist guerrillas in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on late Sunday evening, sources said. They said that a joint team of Army's 1 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation Group (SOG Kulgam) cordoned off the Redwani Balla after receiving a specific information about the presence of militants in the area. According to reports, the militants fired on security officials who had launched a search operation in Redwani Bala village of Khudwani area of the district. According to officials, at least three militants have holed up inside a house in the village, and security forces have marked it off to prevent them from escaping under the cover of darkness. As such the joint team of forces intensified the search operation, the militants hiding in the in a house of Zahoor Ahmad Dar S/o Munawar Dar and opened fire upon forces, triggering a gunbattle. Sources said that two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen including Altaf Kachur @Mohmin and Tawseef were reportedly trapped and heavy firing was going on both sides. However, at the time filling this report, a resident Manzoor Ahmad told Early Times over Phone that firing stopped from both the sides. |
