Jammu, July 10: There is just one permanent lecturer at Government Higher Secondary School Chiralla against the sanctioned posts of 14, with around 500 students on rolls. Rakesh Kumar, sarpanch of Sonarthawa, told Early Times that the government upgraded GHSS Chiralla in 2009 and sanctioned 14 posts of lecturers. But since then only one post has been filled. In the absence of permanent lecturers, contractual staffers are manning the affairs of the school. Criticizing the government, Kumar said the inordinate delay in filing up the posts has affected the studies of the students. Around 500 students got admitted in the school from Class 6 to 12 this year. At present the GHSS Chiralla runs Science and Arts streams. There is a permanent lecturer for Political Science but for Chemistry, Environmental Science, Philosophy and IT subjects, there is no lecturer even as classes are going on. Besides the shortage of lecturers, out of 11 sanctioned posts of teachers, six are vacant. "Director of School Education, Jammu had engaged candidates on arrangement basis in the middle of year and relieved them two months before the end of session. How the can students complete their syllabus in such a situation," asked Rakesh, adding that other higher secondary schools located in rural areas of the region were also running short of permanent staff. Residents of the area urged Education Minister Syed Naeem Akhtar Andrabi to fill the posts of lecturers and teachers without further delay. |
