Influential doc raises restaurant in Pahalgam's wildlife zone 7/11/2015 12:43:54 AM Saahil Suhail Anantnag, July 10: In brazen violation of the Wildlife Act and High Court directive banning any construction within the jurisdiction of Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA), an influential doctor has come up with a restaurant in famed Aru valley of the tourist resort. Dr Ahsan raised the structure during last four months under the nose of Wildlife officials and the PDA. The doctor, according to locals, constructed the restaurant adjacent to his guesthouse River Front Resort. "After entering into deal with the Wildlife officials the doctor managed to complete the construction within months," said the locals. In the wildlife zone, nobody can go even for the construction of a small shed. However locals said that the doctor constructed a huge restaurant with the tacit support of officials posted in the area. "It was only after the doctor had completed two stories of the structure that the PDA officials came and removed rooftop of the same. They did not touch rest of the structure," said a local. A Wildlife official posted in the area admitted that the doctor has constructed the structure illegally but added that he completed the structure when all the officials of the department were busy with elections. Asked why they did not remove the structure after the elections were over, he said it was up to the higher ups to go for the demolition. "Our job was to inform them about the violation and we had done that," he said. Interestingly, Chief Wildlife warden, Anantnag, Mohammad Maqbool Baba expressed ignorance about the illegal construction. "I am not aware about any such thing. I will get it confirmed from my field officials.
