JAMMU, July 10: Amid state government's efforts to contain menace of corruption in the state, many officers of the government are misusing the facilities provided to them for the effective discharge of their duties, denting the public exchequer in the process.
Well placed sources told Early Times, that having his jurisdiction within Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts, the , Executive Engineer Urban Local Bodies Division Jammu, allegedly uses his official vehicle for private trips.
"The Vehicle (Mahindra Bolero, JKO2BK-0230), allotted to him is meant for official purposes, but the Engineer on Friday went to Kishtwar for private tour", sources said.
They further said that the matter has been brought into the notice of anti-graft agencies.
"Earlier, he has made number of private trips using official vehicle", sources alleged, adding that now the watchdogs have also been informed about misuse of vehicle.
"It was highly preposterous that tainted engineer, who is already under scanner, for flouting norms and likely to face action, today once again threw rule books into bin", sources said and added, "A probe should be conducted into the illegitimate abuse of public exchequer and initiation of appropriate penal and other legal proceedings against the delinquents", they demanded.
The unabated and unauthorized use of vehicles can be gauged from the fact that dozens of such vehicles can be seen waiting for hours in front of schools, hospitals, shopping malls, parks, and other places. "As excessive fuel consumption dents the exchequer, it has also punctured the tall claims of transparency and fairness", they added.
