Blocked Jmu-Sgr NH reopens, halted yatra resumes | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 10: The Amarnath Yatra which was halted at Udhampur and Kud resumed late afternoon as the blocked Jammu-Srinagar national highway reopened for the traffic. "The highway got blocked this morning after landslide triggered due to overnight rains near Nashri, Panthial and Ramsoo areas," a police spokesman here said. He said that BRO men and the state police alongwith Army are on job to clear the road. However, the road was through in the afternoon and the yatra allowed to proceed to the Kashmir Valley. Meanwhile a fresh batch of 2422 pilgrims today left for the Holy Shri Amarnath Cave Shrine from Bhagwati Nagar based Yatri Niwas base camp here. "A batch of 2422 pilgrims comprising 1691 male, 540 female, 44 children, 136 male sadhus and 11 sadhvis left for the cave shrine in a fleet of 68 vehicles," a police spokesman here said. He said that the vehicles included 55 State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses and 13 Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs). The first bus left at 0500 hrs while the last bus left at 0515 hrs amid tight security arrangements. The yatra was also halted yesterday at Tomato Morh near Kud in Udhampur district in view of heavy rains but resumed late afternoon. |
