Baramulla has no mother, child care hospital | | | S.Tahir-Ul Haq Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, July 22: Good health for the mother and child in Baramulla district of north Kashmir seems a distant dream as a hospital proposed for them has still not come up in the former district hospital complex. Curiously, the inconceivable project has not only affected the health of the mother and the child but has adversely affected the business of more than fifty chemists around the complex. They are virtually out of business ever since the district hospital was shifted to new complex at Kanthbagh. Soon after the shifting in 2013, the Chemists approached the authorities requesting them to make the mother and Child care hospital operational. However, nothing moved. , the chemists have accused the former coalition government of victimising them. The Government of India (GoI) approved Mother and Child Care Hospital (MCH) and sanctioned Rupees 2 crore on it to complete renovation work within six months. However the GoI had assured the state government that the classes for MBBS students of First year will be started very soon but the dream has never come true. "On an average 40 to 50 patients are examined every day in Old complex of district hospital. This is centrally located place for all residents of old town while as there is no Public Health Center (PHC) in the town. Baramulla town is almost having fifty to sixty thousands of population who are lacking of basic facilities including health. If this MCCH would have been completed within a stipulated period of time, rush of patients will cater on every hospital across the district, President said. Early Times have learnt that the Director Health Services, Kashmir had written a letter to Commissioner Secretary to government Health and Medical Education department Jammu and Kashmir, vide letter no DHSK/plg /712/ prop/2013/1168-71 Dated: 27/06/2013, for establishment of CHC/Mother and Child Care Hospital in Old Complex of District Hospital Baramulla. Sources said that the then Deputy Commissioner, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone had also dispatched a letter to the Director Health Service for establishment of MCH at Old District Hospital Campus Baramulla and requirement of Staff thereof, vide no: DDCB/2014/603-05 Dated: 24/04/2014. Letters were dispatched to the higher authorities for their approval and consideration so that residents of these areas, the business community will not suffer at large, but no concrete steps have been taken up so for. The callous attitude of the government has exposed their non serious approach towards the development of health sector, said sources. |
