Govt intends to introduce new master plans, upgrade MCs | | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 22: The state government is all set to introduce new Master Plans with renewed features to curb illegal constructions in future and upgrade Municipal Committees up to Municipal councils in Jammu and Kashmir divisions. Sources said that renewed Master Plans for Srinagar and Jammu cities have been finalized and ready to be introduced in public domain for suggestions within a week. The details reveal that plans for tourist resorts like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Patnitop and Katra towns are also under final revision and concerned officials have been directed to finalize the drafting process under set deadline and present them before the administrative department and Minister for Urban development and local Bodies within two weeks. Sources said that officials have been directed to complete Master plans of Jammu, Srinagar and Katra tourist destination before next Cabinet meet so that all the three Master plans could be presented in cabinet meet for approval. Talking to Early times, Minister of state (MOS) for Urban development, Muhammad Ashraf Mir said that plan for Jammu city is already in public domain for suggestions. Master plan for Srinagar and other areas are also under way with all the renewed features. "New Master plans are equipped with extra ordinary features to curb illegal constructions in future, we are trying our best to complete the process of drafting of all plans and start working on illegal constructions in Srinagar city," said Mir. He also added that keeping in demand the population growth, the Municipal Committees established in towns long ago will be upgraded to Municipal Councils. In Kashmir valley the government has prioritized Baramullh from North Kashmir and Shopian From South Kashmir. Sources said that Master Plan of Srinagar city is irking certain stake holders as government is proposing to deal with illegal constructions raised around water bodies. Sources also said that illegal construction raised over the years within populated areas which includes shopping Malls of influential people arrond Lal Chowk area may face axe if the Master plan is approved in its original shape. Pertinently illegal constructions raised around water bodies in Srinagar city are believed among major causes for water lodging and creating flood like situation more often since September 2014. |
