Today passport to Geelani, tomorrow it could be 'Azadi' to Kashmir | BJP bringing bad name to nation | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 22: It was expected that the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre at the behest of the ruling coalition in J&K of which the BJP is a part would finally yield and issue passport to seditionist Syed Ali Shah Geelani so that he could interact with anti-India forces outside India in the name of his daughter's claimed illness and it actually happened on Tuesday. It has shocked the nation. Pro-Pakistan Geelani, who, along with other seditionists, is responsible for the ongoing orgy of death and destruction in Kashmir as well as mobilization of anti-nationals in Kashmir and radicalization of the Valley, repeatedly says that "I am not Indian by birth" and "it is a compulsion". The general view in the country as expressed through strategic affairs experts was that it would be an act of betrayal if Geelani was issued a passport and that he should be deported to Pakistan". Commenting on the issuance of a passport, which would be valid for nine months, official sources said the Jammu & Kashmir Government had recommended issuance of passport to Geelani on humanitarian grounds. "Jammu & Kashmir Government had written to Ministry of External Affairs which accepted the recommendation… After the MEA nod, his verification was sent to the RPO Srinagar few days ago," a senior official was quoted as saying. It is important to note that not one but many BJP national spokespersons had repeatedly asserted that passport will not be issued to Geelani as he was involved in heinous crimes, including anti-state acts, and that his place was only jail. But it is now manifestly clear that they didn't mean that; they simply misled and hoodwinked the nation and bought time for the Modi government, which has been committing blunder after blunder under the baneful influence of nations like the United States to appease not only Pakistan but also its Kashmir-based agents and spokespersons. The grant of passport to Geelani once again establishes that the intentions of the Modi Government, which is in the dock and at the receiving end for the acts of omission and commission committed by certain Union Ministers, Chief Ministers and Ministers in Maharashtra Government, are not noble or it doesn't know what statecraft means and how to govern the state and tackle scourge of separatism and terrorism. That the Modi Government endorsed the stand of the coalition government in Jammu & Kashmir that Geelani deserved passport on humanitarian grounds only indicates that the Union government has no clear stand either on Pakistan or on Jammu & Kashmir and seditionists like Geelani and that it could take more such outrageous and unsettling steps on the same ground to appease others in the overfed, over-developed and already extraordinarily appeased Kashmir valley. It could even grant azadi to Jammu & Kashmir on the same ground bartering the paramount national interest and overlooking the future of the minorities in the state, who constitute almost 40 per cent population of the state. All of its acts and decisions after October 2014 only vindicate those who considered the emergence of the Modi Government at the centre not in the larger national interest. |
