JAMMU, July 25: An alleged drug dealer has become so powerful that thana police hesitate to arrest him even after the recent recovery of a huge quantity of drugs from his shop.
Reason: A senior police officer is alleged to be shielding him and directing his juniors not to arrest him.
While a police team led by a SP was readying to raid his shop few days back, he closed it minutes before the cops reached there and fled the spot, according to police sources.
He closed his shop because someone in police department told him about the raid in advance, sources said.
Since police had authentic information that there were drugs in his shop, it was opened in the presence of a magistrate. Its search led cops to the recovery of drugs, sources alleged.
After the raid, the drug dealer, who enjoyed good relations with a senior police officer, kept moving on the city roads in his car and slept in his house at night but he was not apprehended by police.
However, after a new officer got posted in the area, he stopped going home. "Nowadays, he is putting up in a city area to avoid his arrest," sources said and added that he was doing so on the advice of the senior officer.
The senior officer wanted to save him at any cost and had been making efforts in this regard, sources alleged. |
