Omar has to wake up too | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 25: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said the attacks on mobile towers and cell outlets in Srinagar were a wakeup call for the government. The statement was carried by all the newspapers of the state. However, the statement evoked critical reaction from political circles. According to them, Omar intends to awaken the government but remained in total slumber in 2010 when the valley witnessed massive violence and when quit Kashmir slogan as heard yet again after more than six decades. This was the time when Omar was accused of failure to govern the state by the union government. Omar later went ahead to challenge the totality of accession. He became the state's first Chief Minister to make such a statement on the floor of the House. Omar's statement won ridicule for another reason. The kind of problem mentioned by Omar, saner elements believe must be fought unitedly. According to them, people must rise above petty considerations and join hands in such situations. "The sooner it dawns on Omar the better," they said adding nobody including Omar Abdullah should not remain indifferent to the situation that is now emerging. "He too has to wake up,' they said. |
