2 months on, justice eludes Jammu gun factories' workers | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 25: Gun factories' workers of Gangyal, Jammu, who are victims of their owners and the Labour Department as well, have been moving from pillar to post to get their legitimate right. Showing indifferent attitude towards this poor working class, the owners have been pursuing delaying tactics to implement the agreement done with workers nearly two months ago at the office of Sub District Magistrate Jammu, where Assistant Labour Commissioner himself was present. "The Labour Department has virtually turned out to be a mute spectator and is deliberately not taking interest in resolving our issues. It has failed to take stern action against the owners who are time and again betraying the workers and leaving no stone unturned in hurting the sentiments of the workers," a group of workers told Early Times. They said that the Labour Department's intentions have sharply come under scanner, as it has showed apathetic attitude by not taking any action against employers who failed to implement the agreement. "After strong protest by the workers last week, the Labour Officer had given attendance card to the gun factory owners to issue the same to their employees to implement minimum wage. But the attendance cards were not issued by the owners, compelling workers to work on piece rate system," they said. |
