jAMMU, August 2: Police foiled Congress workers' peace march in support of AIIMS Coordination Committee at Residency Chowk in Jammu today. More than 150 Congress workers including women led by Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress (JKPCC) General Secretary, Vikram Malhotra gathered at Residency Chowk and were about to take out a peace march in support of the ongoing agitation over AIIMS issue, which is being spearheaded by the AIIMS Coordination Committee, they were confronted by police. While they were about to begin their peace march towards the site of dharna of AIIMS Coordination Committee at main Tawi Bridge, more than 200 policemen including women police personnel prevented them from moving ahead. As it was a peaceful march in favour of AIIMS Coordination Committee, the Congress workers dispersed soon after the mild resistence from the police. Thereafter, some Congress workers including women and men led by Vikram Malhotra visited the site of agitation at main Tawi Bridge and met the AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) Chairman Abhinav Sharma. They expressed solidarity with the AIIMS Coordination Committee and also extended their full support to the cause of agitation. Speaking on the ocacsion, Abhinav thanked them and also lauded the people of Jammu for their wholehearted support to the ongoing agitation for establishment of fullfledged AIIMS in Jammu. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Akash Nayyar, Javed, Jugal, Vimla, Sanjay Malhotra, Antim Rathore and Meenakshi. |
