PDP averse to Gill's appointment as Governor of JK | | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 2: Political grapevine has been suggesting that PS Gill is going to be the next governor of the state. However, Gill's close association with NC patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah may play the spoilsport. Sources close to PDP said that senior members in PDP were aware of Gill's closeness with the Farooq. It , therefore, is not in the interest of the party to clear his appointment as governor, they made clear. "Being part of a coalition government with BJP leadership is not easy keeping in view two different ideologies. Under such circumstances you always want a Governor to agree to your terms instead of confronting you on issues related to security and development of the state. Gill is deadly honest person but not our preferred choice and can never be, come what may." sources said Sources believe that Gill has been found slightly curved towards National Conference in past and PDP in government with BJP has many issues pertaining to Kashmir other than development which includes dealing with separatist voice and confrontation of BJP on many issues associated with Separatist voice. Following murky situation prevailing in state at present according to sources senior leadership of PDP does not want to take chances with PS Gill as governor of Jammu and Kashmir and have no options left except to express their intentions to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi before appointment of Gill as the new Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. According to details PS Gill who joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in the year 1974 served in various capacities in J&K police which includes the Director, Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur, ADGP Armed, vigilance Commissioner and Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir. Sources believe that in the race of the new Governor for Jammu and Kashmir are PS Gill and General Atta Hasnain who was an IPS officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre and is retired senior top brass Army Official. Pertinently rumours are swinging these days across the state about the approval of appointment of PS Gill as the new Governor of Jammu and Kashmir by Prime Minister, however so far no such official announcement surfaced as yet. Of the Governors who served in Jammu and Kashmir till date includes Karan Singh from 30 March 1965 to 15 May 1967,Bhagwan Sahay from 15 May 1967 to 3 July 1973,Lakshmi Kant Jha from 3 July 1973 to 22 February 1981,Braj Kumar Nehru from 22 February 1981 to 26 April 1984, Jagmohan from 26 April 1984 to July 1989, KV Krishna Rao from July 1989 to 19 January 1990,Jagmohan from 19 January 1990 to 26 May 1990,Girish Chander Saxena from 26 May 1990 to 12 March 1993,KV Krishna Rao from 12 March 1993 to 2 May 1998,Girish Chander Saxena from 2 May 1998 to 4 June 2003, S.K Sinha from 4 June 2003 to 25 June 2008, Narendar Nath Vohra from 25 June 2008 till date with two extensions during his tenure. |
