SRINAGAR, Aug 2: Almost a year has passed since the devastating floods of 2014 hit the area of Mir Behri inside Dal Lake very badly. However, as on date the life is crippling to overcome the horrific aftermath and return to normalcy in this area.
The continuous torrential rains and deluge since March this year has compounded the problems of people living in the area. The locals said that it has been very difficult for them to bear the brunt of continuous water logging since last five months along with the losses suffered due to last year's flood.
"We are feeling as that we are not living in this world of fast communication as the area remained totally cut off with rest of the Srinagar city due to continuous flood like situation since last five months. The dilapidated roads and paths which are not usable for the light vehicles are so wrecked that outsiders frighten to walk through them", said Firdous Ahamd Latoo, Vice President, Mir Behri Welfare Society.
Due to continuous water logging almost every bridge has been damaged, all roads and paths are dilapidated. Some of the roads and paths have been totally washed away due to which the area in the heart of Srinagar has been turned into a far flung and untraceable area of Uri or Tanghdar.
The locals are aghast that their concerned Legislator Asiya Naqash has never bothered to visit them and assess for herself the deplorable situation prevailing everywhere in the area. They said that MLA concerned could have contributed a lot since she is the Minister of State for health and medical education and social welfare in the state government.
"We are much worried and feel agony to see our children go to their schools, colleges or to work through these damaged bridges. Due to the muddy and dilapidated paths and submerged roads the children of our area usually complain of different kind of pains. Notably the skin diseases are spreading fast from one person to another", said Nasir Ahmad, a resident.
The locals are perplexed that state government is claiming tall about the fast and speedy rehabilitation of flood victims in general and the Dal dwellers in special. They said that on ground the people are at helm are completely non-serious about pathetic and deplorable conditions of flood victims especially those living in Mir Behri area.
