Security grid launches 'Ghar Wapasi' for local militants | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 2: The security grid in Jammu and Kashmir while remaining on tenterhooks over the alarming situation of youth joining the militant ranks has started a unique mission to bring back home the misguided youth. Highly placed sources told Early Times that the union home ministry has asked the security agencies, operating in valley, to remain in the constant touch with the families of those boys who have joined militancy at present. Police earlier had already acknowledged that the number of local militants in Kashmir valley is after a long time more than that of the ones having the foreign roots. Reports coming to fore reveal that there are more than 33 young boys who have joined the militant ranks in the recent past. Also there are reports that inform at present more than 140 militants in total are active in Kashmir, giving sleepless nights to the security men and putting agencies on high alert. "There are more than 50 foreign militants operating in Kashmir at present but the greater concern for the agencies is that local youth are getting lured towards the militant path. It indeed is alarming," one of the senior police officials said. He added that after the thorough investigations, surprising facts came to fore including the one that social media plays the vital role in instigating the young minds. There are reports that at present, the agencies have geared up to take appropriate measures so that the boys lured towards militancy, could be brought back to the normal life. "One serious aspect of this mission is not to make the names of those youth public and also not to beat the trumpets of normalcy while achieving such mission," sources privy to the process divulged, adding that consistent approach was needed to get the job done. "We establish a constant contact with the families of the militants and continuously persuading them ask their kins to come back home. I can tell you that we have achieved the results. If 10 boys are getting recruited in militancy, 7 to 8 are coming back home and leading normal lives," Director Generak of Police (DGP) K.Ranjindra said. When asked whether the reports of youth joining militancy is alarming for police, he said the situation merits concern but cannot be termed alarming. |
