As more links of 'corruption' emerge, mystery shrouds inaction of SVO | Kewal's media interaction spree: J&K's Service rules violated …? | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 4: As ex Deputy Chief Minister's PRO Kewal Sharma's efforts of coming clear on the controversies he is embroiled in are seen as mere acts of desperation, nothing concrete has so far emerged nor have the investigating or anti graft agencies fixed responsibility on anyone, leave alone implicating for the charges that have come to fore. On the contrary more threads of controversies are making the case rather complicated. As Sharma went on a spree of press conferences during the last two weeks, the motive of his media interactions is still enveloped in layers of ambiguity. The murmurs that go on raise a valid question- in what capacity Kewal calls the press conferences and interacts with media, no matter what disclosures he makes. Sources said Civil Services Rules of the state have been tattered and norms thrown to winds by the ex PRO while he convened these press conferences and made certain disclosures, no matter these carried any weight, no matter any government agency took cognizance of the same. Kewal, it may be mentioned continues to be in service in the Forest Department that was his parent organization when he became additional PRO of Tara Chand. Kewal's wife too is said to be an employee of Forest department who seldom attended the office during the tenure of Tara Chand as Deputy Chief Minister when her husband was all powerful in affairs of governance. Sources further said that under the Service rules no state government employee can interact with media on his own as the rules do not allow it no matter what the issue is or how important the content he made public was during these interactions. Sources further said that even though he is trying to come clear on the allegations against him, more and more reports that suggest his involvement in acts of corruption have emerged before investigating agencies. Sources said while serving in capacity of PRO of ex Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Sharma's involvement in backdoor appointments of class IV in the Education Department for Jammu district allegedly in collusion with then Chief Education Officer have become more than clear, his role in making transfers of teachers for a hefty amount is also abundantly clear for the SVO to take action. Kewal Sharma, who made fortunes during his stint as PRO is said to have invested money with a Jammu based Finance company owner in Talab Tillo, sources said adding that this Finance Company owner is said to be very close to one BJP leader holding very important post. Sources further said while the tenure of erstwhile NC-Congress regime was about to end, Kewal used his influence and tactics to adjust his son in the government service at a time when MCC was in force for Assembly elections. Such was his approach and access in the powerful lobbies that he managed to appoint his son Ishant Sharma in the State Legislative Assembly on backdate and his salary was also got released on backdate, sources said, adding that this appointment was managed allegedly by paying a hefty amount. While these allegations have been proved by the investigating agencies, it remains a mystery why action eludes against him or on the voluntary disclosures he has been making. |
