Inadequate facilities at GDC Kishtwar force students to stand up in arms

Kishtwar Aug 4: The students of BA/B.Sc /B.Com Part-I of Government Degree College (GDC) Kishtwar today held a strong protest against alleged non availability of teaching staff in the college particularly for Arts and Commerce stream and other basic amenities including public convenience facility.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the agitating students after finding no teacher available in the college to teach them called upon the Principal of the college who according to the students did not pay any heed to the concerns raised by the students. They also accused principal of the college to deal arrogantly with students which forced them to raise slogans against college management and the Principal in particular. Talking to this correspondent the agitating students said that instead of listening to their concerns and problems, the college principal showed them doors. They alleged that the person in chair behaved the way which doesn't suit for the person holding the chair of principal of a prestigious educational institute."Many students find less time to cover the Syllabus as college authorities yet have not introduced Semester system in college, they added and alleged that non availability of teaching staff in the college has become a major headache for the poor students.They also rued the non availability of toilet facility, beside also the poor condition of class rooms in the college premises. They further accused college authorities to have allotted two rooms (with attach bathroom facility) of Arts Block of the college to a local 4th class employee while the quarter meant for night chowkidar is empty reasons better known to officials at the helms of affairs. Moreover the regular employees of the college were denied such facility by the college management who even have threatened to come on roads in case the problem was not addressed. When contacted Dr. Aftab Ahmed Khan Principal GDC Kishtwar denied the allegation leveled against him by the agitating students. He defended himself by saying that due to High Court stay on appointment of contractual staff, many staff members selected for GDC Kishtwar did not join. "We are waiting for the outcome of writ petition, he said and that college has due faculty for majority of subjects but shortage is hitting only to Arts stream. He said that the issue has been taken up with the concerns authorities and hoped the issue be addressed shortly.
