KPs demand culmination ceremony of Amaranth yatra at Navdal
9/4/2015 11:58:21 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 4: Kashmiri Pandits have intensified their struggle to demand that tradition in holy Amarnath yatra be maintained with immersion of relics at Nav Dal in Tral in Pulwama district of South Kashmir two days after the culmination of annual yatra.
In this regard various Kashmiri Pandit organizations have petitioned before Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and Mahant Deependra Giri Ji, the
custodian of holy mace demanding the tradition be maintained now.
The leaders of these KP organizations said that the culmination ceremony of Amarnath yatra as per tradition was performed at Nav Dal from Puranic period and after the militancy broke out in Valley during 1989-90 this tradition was abandoned as mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits took place and the culmination ceremony was performed at Phalgam by immersing the relics in river Lidder by the Sadhus accompanying the holy mace.
However over five years ago the Tral Welfare Committee re-started the tradition by organizing the Nav Dal yatra and large number of people from various parts of Jammu as well as those KPs who are still putting up in Valley joined this yatra.
The Welfare Committee Tral since then has raised the demand that culmination ceremony of the annual Swami Amarnath yatra be performed at Nav Dal Tral and the age -old tradition be restored.
The religious scholars have also substantiated this demand saying that the annual yatra will only culminate when the relics are immersed in Nav Dal river which is a confluence of nine springs dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. They said a grand function used to be held at Navdal since then and large number of Hindus from different parts of Valley including Sadhus used to converge at the holy shrine to participate in the culmination ceremony of the annual yatra pay obeisance to lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Starting the tradition will go a long way in revival of composite culture in Valley the religious scholars feel saying that Government should now take a bold initiative and also encourage the annual pilgrimages to other Hindu religious places in Valley as this can give an opportunity to the minority Hindus to visit each and every place of Valley where famous and ancient shrines still exist. Among them the Chota Amarnath and Sharda Shrine in Bandipora, Badarkali and Kheerbhawani in Kupwara, Tripursundri and Manzgam in Kulgam, Shiva Devi and Prachin Amarnath in Anantnag district.
