Shoulder your responsibility, Mehbooba to Modi | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 4: Ahead of the first anniversary of the devastating floods, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and Member Parliament, Mehbooba Mufti Friday politely conveyed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to shoulder the responsibility of reaching out to the alienated youth population in the state and do some introspection to understand the real reasons why youth are taking up guns and pelting stones in the valley. Addressing a day long convention of party workers here in Jammu PDP Chief said we cannot go to Pakistan and rely on them. It is your responsibility. You have to see why a 14 year old young boy is pelting stones and why a 20 year old youth is ready to take up gun. Referring to the ongoing hostilities between the two neighboring countries, Mehbooba Mufti said it is ironical when India and Pakistan are busy doing routine business through Wagah border the guns are roaring across the borders in Jammu and Kashmir. She said people across the borders are suffering. They need better medical care, better road, better education facilities and we are spending hefty money on purchasing arms and ammunition for the armed forces, she said. She said after more than 60 years of Independence people on the borders are demanding bunkers. They are living in pathetic conditions. She also urged both the neighboring countries to end hostilities and revive trade ties. Once trade will happen it will build bonds and help in normalisation of relations. During her straight talking Mehbooba Mufti also devoted significant time on targeting media especially electronic media for creating hysteria over Indo-Pak relations. She said when few ISIS flags go up in Kashmir valley the guests from both India and Pakistan are invited in TV studios and war hysteria is created. She accused the media of showing only one sided picture and urged them to present a balanced picture. She even quoted numerous examples where common people of Kashmir came to the rescue of Amarnath pilgrims and other visitors in need of help but epxressed her concern the same never found space in the TV news. She said corruption is rampant in the state of Jammu. Here politicians, senior state govt offices have amassed huge wealth and even encorached large chunks of state/forest land but we do not see any campaign in the media where corruption is highlighted. She also gave a sound piece of advice to media to work in the National Interest. |
