British Energy Minister calls on Dr Jitendra | | | Agencies
NEW DELHI, Sep 22: British Minister / Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Amber Rudd, who arrived here this morning on a two-day visit to India, called on Union Minister of State in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh here today and discussed wide range of issues of mutual interest between the two countries including civil nuclear energy cooperation, climate negotiations at Paris Meet and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's forthcoming visit to the United Kingdom later this year. Dr Jitendra Singh told the visiting Minister that India's nuclear energy programme is primarily meant for peaceful purposes and has achieved rapid strides in recent times, particularly because Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself takes a personal interest and promotes all the scientific initiatives including those undertaken by the Department of Atomic Energy. He also informed her that India has just concluded year-long Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the establishment of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) at Mumbai by the internationally renowned scientist Dr Homi J. Bhabha. Expressing satisfaction over the fact that India and UK share collaboration in the field of atomic energy at different levels, Dr Singh said, the mutual cooperation in this field is bound to grow further in the years to come, more so because the two countries have very much in common in different spheres of life. Amber Rudd shared her country's view and observations about the climate change negotiations proposed to be held among the representatives of the different countries and also shared her views on the action which could be taken by India and the UK on this issue. |
