JK women cricketers create history | Fall to Punjab in 30 minutes, JKCA blamed | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, Sep 22: The non-serious approach of the JKCA authorities has led to the worst ever defeat of the under- 19 women's cricket team of Jammu and Kashmir against Punjab with JK players scoring mere 38 runs. The innings lasted just 15 minutes. Reports informed that the national level zonal league of the Under-19 cricket teams being held at present witnessed the match between Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. As JK won the toss and chose to bat first, all its players were shown the way to pavilion by the trained women cricketers of Punjab. The entire team of Jammu and Kashmir was all out while scoring not more than 38. Punjab interestingly chased the easy target with mere 15 balls and match was over in less than 30 minutes. " It was the 50 over match and it ended in mere 15 minutes. This is the worst ever defeat of any cricket team representing the state. Such a shameful performance has never been witnessed in the past," one of the JKCA official told Early Times. Sources meanwhile divulged that with the most non- serious approach, the women's team was sent to take part in the tournament. There were no criteria of experience, taken into consideration while sending the team to represent the state at the national level. There are also reports making rounds within the JKCA that several office bearers had sent their kith and kin to take part in the tournament so that same could pave them way to become eligible for receiving grants and category certificates. "The most experienced and talented lot was left in lurch while relatives of some office bearers were given priority. This is shameful that the state had to witness such a disastrous defeat. It in unbelievable that despite crores of rupees being received as funds from BCCI, JKCA is not able to groom the talented players in the state ," JKCA sources said. Early Times in the past has reported that within the JKCA, there are some office bearers who are mulling to take on board their kith and kin so that they would become eligible for all the benefits that are in normality being accorded to the cricketers. It includes special category in entrance examinations and during the recruitment of various government posts. Now, when the state had performed in the most shameful manner, the claims of those who have been crying foul over JKCA's functioning have been vindicated. It has been proven once again that our state, nepotism and partiality dominate the world of sports too. What the cricket lovers of the state are worried about is the forth coming Ranji series. Sources said that if the corrupt practises within the JKCA are not halted at an earliest, same could lead to disaster which seems to be knocking the doors. |
