Sinthan Top witnesses season's first snowfall, Heavy rains lash Doda, Kishtwar | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar Sept 22: The long dry spell in Chenab region of erstwhile Doda district not only ended with heavy rains but also witnessed season's first snow fall at Sinthon Top. However the change in weather has given respite to people from dry spell but it also resulted into landslides and road blockade for hours together on both Jammu-Srinagar as well as on Jammu-Kishtwar Highway. A famous Tourist destination Sinthan Top situated at an altitude of 12500 feet above sea level on Kishtwar-Chatroo-Srinagar road witnessed seasoned first snowfall as the 'weather' changed its moods today. Locals travelling through this road- Sinthan Top said that it witnessed heavy snow fall and added that nearly 20 KM road leading to Kashmir valley turned slippery . Meanwhile due to overnight and continuous rainfall, the temperature in many areas of erstwhile Doda district witnessed a massive drop in mercury. Locals however lamented that concerned authorities have failed to clear the road blockades at many places till last report came in and National Highways viz. Jammu Srinagar and Batote -Kishtwar witnessed blockades and landslides at many places due to overnight incessant rainfall. Though authorities claim to have impressed men and machinery for road clearance and are waiting for rain to stop, but vehicles including passenger vehicles remained stranded for hours together at many places. When contacted DIG Traffic Ashkoor Wani said that the situation is being closely monitored and resources have been kept ready for road clearance. He said that due to continued rains the road clearance work is hampered and hoped when weather improves the clearance work on both the Highways will be started promptly. |
