Farmers deputation call on Kissan Board VC | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 22: A deputation of Jammu and Kashmir Kisan Tehreek of Jammu province led by Kishore Kumar, President, Rajesh Bittu, S. Tindu Singh, Mohinder Singh, officials of the Food Corporation of India and other prominent farmers from District Kathua, Reasi, Jammu and Samba held a meeting with Daljit Singh Chib, Vice Chairman J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans. While interacting with Daljit Sing Chib, the Members of the Deputation told that the Kharief crop in the State got maturity. The rain fall during the season was normal and as such the crop prospectus is better. The minimum support price for paddy and other Kharief crops have already been announced by the Government of India with the primary objective of having a check on the distress sale of the produce. During last year 13 paddy procurement centres were established by the Food Corporation of India in consultation with the State Government which helped the farming community to sell their produce nearest to MSP in the private sector also. Keeping in view the topographical situation of the paddy growing area in the main belt in Jammu division, these centres were insufficient and demands were pouring in for increasing the centres for the left out areas. They further told the Vice Chairman that the crop harvesting has almost completed, the positioning of the centres for procurement of paddy at MSP by the Food Corporation of India with the coordination and joint working of the CAPD and Agriculture Department are to be ensured well in time and procurement centres increased as per the requirement. The demands have also been received for procurement of Basmati Paddy produce. This requires proper thinking and establishment of procurement centres at the price to be decided by the State Government. Daljit Sing Chib assured the Kisan Sang that more and more procurement Centres will be opened in District Kathua and others Districts of the Jammu Division so that the farmers will be benefitted and will be able to sell the paddy and other produce on the rates approved . |
