Rampant 'Absenteeism' taking toll of education in rural and remote area of Doda

Doda, Oct 16: expressing serious concerns over the prevailing absenteeism amongst teachers especially in far remote areas, the residents of village Grammari ,Dessa of Doda today have threatened to launch massive agitation over regular absenteeism of teachers from lonely Government Middle Schools girls ,Gramari .
The villagers have submitted an ultimatum of seven days to Chief Education Officer (CEO) Doda for taking strong action against the absentee teachers failing which they will be left with no option but to come to roads, The villagers accompanied with Panch Gerdari Lal , Chowkidar Dewan Chand ,Radesham , Ragunath and others yesterday had visited the local school and found all four teachers absent from school and the students were playing in the premises of the school while observing an unofficial holiday. Locals also alleged that in teachers of GMS (Girls) Grammari always remained absent from duties and the future of their children is at risk.
"This shows that the supervisory in these areas which are remote and far flung is very weak as a result of which many teachers in the schools do not attend or do not teach the students, alleged Chowkidar of village Grammari Dewan Chand. Education department in the district is lying defunct totally as the authorities have failed to provide staff to the schools in rural areas as per the requirement," lamented a local Panch Girdari Lal . He said that tall claims of the authorities of education department including Minister for Education, Commissioner Secretary, Director of school Education and Chief Education Officer of marinating work culture and good governance goes in air. "All orders and directions remain on the papers only and have no impact on the ground", he alleged "We had come to conduct a surprise inspection to the school but to our surprise there was not a single teacher available for eight classes," said a local questioning tall claims of streamlining education sector. They also warned ZEO Bhagwah and CEO Doda if action is not taken against absentee teachers and adequate staff was not provided to the Middle School within a week, the locals of are shall take to the roads.
