JMC seals two meat shops for illegal slaughtering | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 30: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has sealed two meat shops for slaughtering animals illegally in violation of standard guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). All the slaughter houses should have a FSS license (The penalty is upto 5 Lakh a day). The directions to seal shops in Kacchi Chawni area were issued by JMC Commissioner Mandeep Kour in a surprise raid conducted along with the 'Save Animals Value Environment 'Animal Rights NGO- Chairperson Rumpy Madaan and Balvinder Singh Convenor Sangharsh RTI Movement. The meat and about 400 poultry birds were seized by the Municipal Veterinary Officer. No meat shop is allowed to slaughter animals even chicken or fish. They are a public nuisance under section 268 of IPC and may be negligent of IPC. Road side meat shops make a mockery of the Water (Control of Pollution) Act 1974. Rumpy Madaan in an earlier meeting with the JMC Commissioner had pointed out about un-scientific slaughtering and butchering animals at local shops in violation of the law. The raid on shops and slaughter houses was conducted early this morning. The JMC Commissioner also visited the government owned slaughter houses at Dogra Hall and Gujjar Nagar, where no standard procedures were followed. Both the butcheries lacked basic infrastructure mandatory for ensuring the health and hygiene of the meat produced for consumption. |
