'Hostile VC' forces Prof Mattoo to cancel JU visit | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 30: Purported hostility of Jammu University Vice-Chancellor, Prof R D Sharma allegedly led to cancellation of the scheduled visit of Chief Minister's Advisor, Prof Amitabh Mattoo to the campus where the latter was invited as chief guest at a function on Wednesday. Despite his formal nod for participation in the event Jashn-e-Riyasat, sources said that Prof Mattoo cancelled his scheduled visit at the eleventh hour following reports of JU VC's alleged displeasure shown to organizers of the programme. If sources are to be believed, Prof Mattoo was at Srinagar Airport for taking his scheduled flight to Jammu on Wednesday morning when he received a call from the organizers requesting him to cancel the visit in the wake of Prof R D Sharma's alleged displeasure. After listening to the caller, sources added, Mattoo asked the organizers not to be worried and then drove back to his residence in Srinagar. Even as the function concluded smoothly with Divisional CommissionerJammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal as chief guest in place of Dr Mattoo, the incident triggered lot of speculations and stories in the university circles. Sources said that powerful Mattoo has taken this development very seriously and talked to his well wishers in the university to keep him informed about all activities and issues of Jammu University for timely action on his part. The CM's advisor has also come to know that two senior officers of Jammu University played main role in persuading Prof R D Sharma against him. These officers allegedly told Prof Sharma that by inviting Dr Mattoo as chief guest, the organizers had tried to undermine the Vice-Chancellor's authority and thus a clear message should be conveyed against attempts of indirect interference in the university affairs, sources informed. Even as both JU and Mattoo have maintained a silence over the development, sources said that fallout of this alleged immature behaviour of Prof R D Sharma at the instance of some vested interest is imminent in near future. |
