Football field turned into boxing rings as players resorted to punches | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 2: The decider match in the Senior Division League Football turned to be a free for all as the players of two opponent teams had locked into fierce fight wherein punches and kicks were used liberally. The final match of the League, which was being played between Young Rovers and Sainik Colony Club, had been going on smoothly till the 45th minute of the first half. However, the ugly scenes become centre stage in the field as and when a player of Sainik Colony Dharma Pal Singh scored a goal for his team and out of excitement he tried to kiss the football but he was stopped by a player of Young Rovers who first pushed the former and then resorted to beating. Suddenly, the supporters of Young Rovers went berserk and invaded the field who along with the team members of Young Rovers started to thrash the players of Sainik Colony. All hell broke loose in the field as the players of the two teams used body blows to each other. The policemen present on the spot did their best to separate the grappling players but the fight continued which was controlled only after the hectic efforts of police, organizers and management of two teams. The match which got halted for an hour due to the noisy scenes could be restarted only after a written assurance was given by Treasurer JKAFA and Chairman of the tournament R K Kohli that action would be initiated against four players of the Young Rovers.
