Modi visit keeps babus on toes | | | Peeerzada Ummer Early Times Report srinagar, Nov 2: Bureaucrats in J&K, seldom known for their work, are these days busy and could be seen passing orders for beautifying the roads and repairing the broken electric polls. The heads of various departments and the Chief Engineers hold regular meetings about how to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to the state a success. Various departments including the PDD, R&B and PHE are working in unison and making all necessary arrangements for the PM’s visit, sources told Early Times. They said that despite the 'Durbar Move', the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar is abuzz with activities these days. Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is himself taking day to day feedback about arrangements being put at place with strict directions being issued by him to all his cabinet colleagues over making PM's rally in Srinagar on November 7 a success. As Modi is likely to announce a mega- developmental package for J&K, the BJP is relying on PDP entirely for gathering people for the rally. The PDP high command, it is learnt, has asked its cadre to galvanise as much people as it can so for PM's rally. A senior PDP leader said various party leaders are holding meetings in their respective areas in a bid to ask people to join PM's rally onNovember 7. "We are apprising people about the positive outcome of their participation in PM's rally. We are requesting them to join the rally," said the PDP leader, adding that the BJP has been entirely banking on PDP supporters for the rally. Pertinently, Mufti has expressed hope that the proposed visit of Modi would be a "turning point in the history" of J&K. Mufti said the people of the state have great expectations from the Prime Minister's visit, who he said is a visionary and has his eyes fixed on overall development of J&K. "I see this visit as an opportunity for history to repeat itself," he said, while recalling the address of former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee to the people during his memorable visit in 2003 from the same venue. The Chief Minister made these remarks during a public meeting. Meanwhile, security personnel have been deployed in strength in Lal Chowk and other parts of Srinagar to ensure that no untoward incident takes place ahead of the PM’s visit. A senior police official told Early Times that the security arrangements have been put in place similar to that of January 26 or August 15. He said that extra security companies have also been deployed to make Srinagar, where Modi is set to address a public rally, safe and secure. |
