BJP high command to clip Nirmal Singh's wings | Likely to be stripped off one portfolio | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 2: Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh is likely to be stripped off one of the two portfolios under him due to his alleged failure in effectively handling the Government affairs. Even as a formal decision in this regard is likely to be taken soon after the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Jammu and Kashmir on November 7, sources said that the party high command has almost made up its mind to cut the incumbent into size. Proposal to clip wings of the Deputy Chief Minister was taken after a high level consultation between the BJP top leaders and the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh functionaries in New Delhi in wake of fresh controversies surrounding Dr Nirmal Singh, who has so far failed to project himself as a leader of Jammu despite all out support of the party as well as Sangh Parivar to him. According to the sources, the Sangh during the last more than a month, has received a plethora of complaints against Dr Nirmal Singh and his failures to deliver as a Deputy Chief Minister. Even as the RSS has refused to change Nirmal Singh with any other face as the Deputy Chief Minister, sources said that an alternative plan has been chalked out to avoid more embarrassment to Bhartiya Janta Party in Jammu and Kashmir where the party has come to power for the first time in history. As per the plan, sources elaborated, Nirmal Singh is likely to be reduced to a virtual dummy like his predecessor Tara Chand Sharma, who was Deputy Chief Minister in then Omar Abdullah-led NC-Congress coalition Government but Sham Lal Sharma was face of the party as alliance partner. On the same pattern, the BJP high command and RSS are mulling to strip Dr Nirmal Singh off one of his two portfolios while some other face of the party may be given more projection in the Government affairs, sources explained. All this was felt necessitated due to the failures of Dr Nirmal Singh as Deputy Chief Minister in effectively handling the Government affairs and its negative fall out on the image of BJP as ruling coalition partner. |
