JAMMU, Nov 2 : A group of trekkers of Shiksha Niketan Higher Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar, here reached back after successfully participating in the second phase of Silver Jubilee Himalayan Trekking Programme being initiated by Tawi Trekkers J&K in the Dharamshala area in Himachal Pradesh. This 48-member group which included two teachers Arjun Singh and Amarjeet Singh was flagged off from Jammu by the Principal of the School Rameshwar Mengi on October 28. Sonam Sidharth, joint secretary of Tawi Trekkers was the leader of the all boys group. During the 5-day venture the budding trekkers, with a base camp at Chamunda, visited the world heritage site of Kangra Fort, the largest fort in Himalaya and probably the oldest dated fort in India; the sacred Jwalajee temple, one of the most ancient temples in India; Macleodganj, the seat of His Holiness Dalai Lama; Dharamkot, popularly called mini Israel; Bhagshunath, the beautiful Waterfall, Tapovan, Chamunda, Dharamshala and Nagini besides a visit to the beautiful Dharamshala stadium. However, the highlight of the heritage trek was the visit to the Kangra fort where everybody was thrilled to learn the glorious history of their great country. It may be mentioned here that Tawi Trekkers J&K is organizing Himalayan Heritage treks in order to sensitize the students to love and respect their national heritage, culture, ancient values and ideas. On its return to Jammu the group was received by Shawetica Khajuria, general secretary of the Club. A number of office bearers of Tawi Trekkers including senior vice president, Ram Khajuria were also present on the occasion. A lucky draw was also held and the two winners Aakil Irshad Shah and Virat Raina were presented gifts. |
