Who is sabotaging probe into infamous BOPEE entrance scam? | | | Peerzada Ummer
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 22: Attempt to sweep BOPEE 2010 entrance exam scam under the carpet by the helmsmen by sabotaging the process of investigations obviously to shield the accused has raised many an eyebrows across the State. Despite the claims of the Crime Branch made earlier this year, that the investigations into BOPEE 2010 paper leak scam are going on at full pace, there is apparently no major development coming to fore with accused moving scot-free. Earlier there were reports that Crime Branch had caught hold of 10 students including eight girls, allegedly involved in the CET paper leak scam during 2010. Reports had informed at that time that after the CET scam of 2012 got unearthed, the Crime Branch had got vital inputs about the similar scam in BOPEE's 2010 examination. Reports had claimed the Crime Branch had received the inputs about the admissions done in 2010 through CET were forged, but the matter was allegedly hushed up due to political and bureaucratic pressure. Soon after the CET 2012 scam surfaced, the Crime Branch officials opened up the files pertaining 2010 to BOPEE scam. But, according to the sources, there has been no major breakthrough into the investigations going on over the alleged paper leak scam. Though the crime officials here remain tight lipped, expressing reluctance in divulging any information vis-a-vis the status of the investigations, there are reports of the issue being probed at much slower pace. On July 3, this year, the Jammu Kashmir High Court had directed the Crime Branch to file latest status report of the investigation in 2010 CET paper selling scam in the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE). The Crime Branch had through it status report informed the court that investigation of CET 2010 paper selling scam could not be completed as 'cellular companies did not extended cooperation to the Investigating Officer'. Though the Crime Branch later on record stated that it would inform the court about the status of the investigations going on into the 2010 BOPEE exams, the names of the accused is yet to be made public. Interestingly, if the investigations find anything fishy into the BOPEE held in 2010, the admissions of the candidates selected through the process is likely to get cancelled. In July 2013, the J&K High Court had initiated proceedings against the State over BOPEE 2012 examgate. The Crime Branch registered an FIR in the scandal after establishing prima-facie involvement of the persons whose names had cropped up during preliminary investigations. The High Court monitored the investigation of the case and directed the Crime Branch to take the probe to its logical conclusion. |
