Congress needs Priyanka | | | RB Suri At the moment , opposition political parties very much are there in the Lok Sabha but are ineffective as the Indian National Congress - a political party, having a background of more than 130 years which fought against the British Raj and ultimately succeeded in achieving the Independence of the country in 1947, has been reduced to the 'Skeleton' with the strength of only 44 MPs in the Lok Sabha. Same is the case with other political parties which were dictating their terms to the UPA for running the government at the centre under the Prime Minister Ship of Dr. Man Mohan Singh . Those were the days when these parties were ruling the country indirectly for a period more than a decade. This was the sorry state of affairs of this great country. Numerous scams involving lakhs of crores of rupees occurred during the two Rules of UPA . There is a dire need of a strong opposition in the largest democracy of the World in order to maintain the required check and balance in the Administrative set up of the country . Accepting this as a major challenge, Indian National Congress (INC) is under obligation to set its house in order first . At the moment INC is inflicted with so many internal problems which can be taken care of by its top leadership in order to take the lead in the Parliament of the country . INC had seen many ups and downs in the country's history of parliamentary democracy . For the esteemed readers, it becomes obligatory on my part to apprise them that in 1969 , INC was splitted into two Congresses. One led by Madam Indira Gandhi and the other one led by S . Najalingappa - Syndicate group. Congress led by Indira Gandhi was termed as the INC - Indira which got the massive support of the general masses of the country and whereas the Syndicate Congress diminished with the passage of time. Immediately after the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971, Indira Gandhi got the massive mandate in the Lok Sabha elections in 1972. The ruling party of the time under the Prime Ministership of Indira Gandhi clamped the internal emergency in the country in on the midnight of 25th June 1975. Against the dictatorial attitude of the then Prime Minister of the Country Indira Gandhi, Late Jay Prakash Narayan popularly called as " JP " launched an agitation for Total Revolution in the country. This agitation was called as JP Andolan. At that time Indira Gandhi was ruling the country and during her regime no heed was paid to the opposition. Felt neglected out rightly , entire opposition went behind JP against Indira Gandhi. During this time , in a case filed by Raj Narayan, a Judgment came from the Allahabad High Court against Indira Gandhi unseating her from the membership of the Parliament instantly. On this score furiously, she clamped Emergency in the country and almost all the top opposition leaders were arrested and put behind the Bars in June 1975. 1n 1977, Emergency was lifted from the country and the elections to the Lok Sabha were held and Janta Party came to power defeating INC which faced the humiliating defeat in the elections. I am just recollecting the days when people who are the real owners of this country were not heard properly and this deadly agitation was fought by the then old opposition stalwarts like Atal Behari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani , George Fernandez, Morarji Desai and remained victorious. In 1980, INC after the fall of Janta Party Government at the centre got the overwhelming support of the people of the country in Lok Sabha elections and came into power at the centre once again . After the killing of Indira Gandhi by her security gaurds Beant Singh and Satwant Singh at her official residence in 1984, Rajiv Gandhi took the reigns of the Central Government . as the Prime Minister . After the death of the Rajiv Gandhi Narsimah Rao ruled this nation for a full term under UPA . Sonia Gandhi proved her credentials in managing the affairs of the Indian National Congress (INC) with her sharp skill and wisdom up to this time but it is pertinent to mention here that Rahul Gandhi remained a total failure in leading and consolidating his party. He is in the political field since two decades but could not be able to generate his solid image in the general masses of the country over which INC commanded respect and acceptability, No doubt he won his Lok Sabha seat twice. He failed to deliver the goods to his centaury old party. It is unfortunate that sometimes he remains active in politics and at the same time he goes under hibernation for months together creating a suspense for his critics . As per the experience goes UPA led the Central Government under the Prime Ministership of Dr. Manmohan Singh weakened the country to the large extent as he governed the country under 'Majboori' and numerous scams came to lime light . Enough is enough , INC cannot afford to to adopt him as the head as he does not have that much skill and grifth over the party as he is not a good oration to attract the masses . Therefore. the present situation of the INC demands that without wasting any further time, Sonia Gandhi Should project Priyanka Gandhi on top priority replacing Rahul Gandhi. She can be projected as the head to lead INC in this country. Priyanka Gandhi deserves her projection as the main head of INC in the Indian politics. She possesses all the required qualities of a good leader and her charismatic personality is dashing and full of dynamism. Clarity lies in her voice which attracts the people at large , She gives the resemblance with her grand mother Madam Indira Gandhi . Pritanka never gets panicky and she analyses the events with great concern and due care . She opens her cards only when the same are required . Parliamentary democracy needs that there should be a strong opposition which the INC only can provide under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi Should rise to the occasion and take the required action in projecting Priyanka Gandhi as the overall Incharge of the INC and she should act as the Chief Patron of INC. Delhi and Bihar Assembly elections are the real indicators that BJP's popularity is on the declining trend day by day. A wide vacuum is developing in the country for opposition unity under UPA banner. INC should try to encash the situation under the dynamic leadership of Priyanka Gandhi who can pose a threat to Modi. If the present position of INC is allowed to continue for some more time, I apprehend that a sharp decline in the Congress politics and its popularity would be witnessed as Rahul Gandhi caused a considerable damage to the party. Let the INC improve its old image under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi in the new year 2016. That will not be good for the country. Strengthening of INC in the present political scenario of the country is must otherwise BJP would be heading towards authoritarian rule in the country . |
