Govt coaching for school children starts with wrong teaching

Early Times Report
srinagar, Dec 31: It was a wrong teaching by none other than the Education Department itself on the inauguration ceremony of the much-hyped Chief Minister's Super-50 Free Winter Tutorial, as the hosts here today brazenly misused scores of domestic LPG cylinders for heating to keep the VIPs warm and comfortable.
The inaugural function held at Government Girls High School, Hyderpora where 10th and 12th standard students will be provided free coaching, during the winters, found the VIPs including Education Minister Naeem Akhter being kept warm with gas bukharis run on domestic gas cylinders to defy biting cold.
As per norms, use of domestic gas for heating is an offence while apart from seizure of such lot, fine can be imposed on the offenders.
But at today's function, though scores of VIPs including R&B Minister Altaf Bukhari and Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Javaid Mujtaba Geelni were present, illegal use of fuel was a norm.
Some parents and other visitors who attended the function strongly objected to the misuse of cooking gas. "What will you teach the children when you glorify an offence?" shouted a visitor, while some "political workers" asked him to keep quite.
Some people said, "On one hand you have asked the PDD to file FIRs against Kashmiri people resorting to power theft whereas you yourself shamelessly enjoy warmth of gas bukhari run on fuel meant for domestic cooking."
Some the visitors said it inauguration function was ugly face of VIP culture. "Rules are fools, VIPs exempted. This function has exposed that ministers and Babus can't do without luxurious heating arrangements even for a minute," the visitors said.
The ministers declined to listen to such questions even as some people left the place in protest. A senior official of the Education Department however said there was no wrong in using domestic gas for heating at such functions. "There's flexibility in the system. When ministers attend a function domestic cylinder can be used for heating," he said.
In his address the Education Minister termed the "on-going reforms in the education department as 'Peoples Movement'."
Akhtar said under the CM's Super-50 initiative, the Department of Education will also provide free coaching for medical and engineering entrance exams both at the state and national level.
"I can't quantify our achievements but this school is a symbol of change that the state of Jammu and Kashmir will usher into in coming years," he added.
