Challan produced against SPO for 'killing' relative in accidental fire

Kishtwar Dec 31: Police today produced challan in the court of chief judicial magistrate here against an SPO for allegedly killing his relative in an accidental fire while the two were out for hunting in Cherji forests of the district. After the incident, a case under FIR No 196/2015 and sections 304 (para-II) of RPC and 3/25 of Arms Act was registered against him at Police Station, Kishtwar. As per the challan, Kishtwar police received an information that on November 1, 2015, the people hailing from Cherji and its adjoining areas had assembled at Dool on the bank of river Chenab for the cremation of Kuldeep Kumar, son of Sundar Singh of Cherji, who had died due to bullet injuries under mysterious circumstance the previous night. Soon thereafter, police swung into action and took the body in its custody while preparations were being made to cremate it. The body was then shifted to hospital where post-mortem was conducted on it. The weapon of offence was seized and inquest proceedings were initiated in the case under section 174 of CrPC. During the course of the investigation, police found negligence on part of SPO Leela Ram, son of Prem Nath of Cherji and arrested him. The police also sent the material collected during the course of investigation to forensic laboratory, Jammu, and on the basis of the report submitted by the lab experts, the crime against the SPO was established. As per the details available with Early Times, Kuldeep died due to gun shots in the forest where he and the SPO had gone for hunting and police were informed by the accused that the deceased after getting injured in accidental fire, rolled down from the hillock and died.
