Early Times Report Udhampur, Dec 31: Stating that the overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2015 has been fairly stable, Northern Army Commander Lt General D.S. Hooda on Thursday said that infiltration had halved this year as compared to the last year. "We have achieved a fair amount of success in the hinterland. A number of top terrorist leaders have been killed. On the Line of Control, the counter-infiltration posture that the army has adopted has been fairly successful. And, as per our assessment, the infiltration was almost half of what it was the last year," Lt General Hooda said. "The security situation is stable. If there is something that concerns us is that increasing number of youth are joining militancy. Though the number is not large, it's a trend that all of us together need to address. The security forces, the parents, the families and the society at large need to control this trend," he added. The Northern Army Commander also expressed his concern over the youth taking the wrong path and eventually being killed in various encounters. "It is extremely unfortunate that the youth of the state, instead of being the future, are being killed in various encounters. From our side, we encourage the youth, who have joined militancy, that if they wish to come over ground, let me assure you that we will be there to provide maxim support to them, and will also provide maximum support for their rehabilitation. We wish them all the best," he said. |
