| Mismanaged JU hostel makes inmates' life miserable | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 31: The dust and sand that finds way into the rooms of Jammu University hostel has made the life of inmates miserable. The problem lies in renovation work going on a very snail pace for the last over six months.
Sources informed Early Times that the repair of the hostel is repeatedly taken up by the University Works Department more often than not and the total renovation of bathrooms is again being carried out this year also as there was repair requirement of few showers, taps and clearance of sinks because these bathrooms had were repaired way back in the year 2012.
The sources also informed that the standard and parameters of executing the work are meeting a raw deal by the executing Department as the tiles so far used are allegedly of cheap product with their faulty adjustment on the floor with the result the water remains dumped there, further told, adding that the Works Department has deferred the work in four bathrooms since last over one month which has become a big threat to the sanitary conditions in the Hostel creating stinking conditions for the hoteliers.
The sources further said that as per standing norms, a permanent teacher is only entitled for becoming Resident Warden but strangely out of the way, one blue eyed contractual lecturer of the top officer of the University has been assigned this work with the sole intention to adjust him in the Hostel where he has occupied the room meant for scholars and added further alleging that there is no proper check by the Hostel Warden who visits once in two or three weeks with scant interest to take cognizance of the difficulties of the scholars whose life has become more worse than the jail inmates.
Narrating the sorry state of affairs presently prevailing in the Hostel, the sources said that the washrooms are in dilapidated condition without locks and glasses and while using, the scholars have to close the doors with rope, no proper management of Gen Set operation when needed, computer room is locked since last one year, guest room is also locked and their parents are deprived of the guest room facility whenever they visit their wards in Jammu University.
The authorities have been apprised of the development time and again without results. |
