Police, Gujjars clash in Jammu, 5 cops injured in stone pelting | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 31: At least five police personnel were injured when police clashed with Gujjars while demolishing encroached structure in this winter capital of the state. "Police along with revenue officers this evening reached the Nikki Tawi area to remove an illegal structure raised by members of Gujjar community," police here said. They said a group of Gujjars objected to the demolition of structure, which led to the clash. Sources said, "as soon as the officials along with police this evening reached the spot to vacate the encroached land but Gujjars resorted to stone pelting. "Five cops, including a senior police officer, sustained minor injuries in the clash," they said and added that two of them have been hospitalized. However, the protestors were pacified when the officials assured that only the structures raised on encroached land would be removed but not the kiosks. |
