Historic Batote town to bear brunt of hyped Nashri-Chenani tunnel | | | Danish Muzafar Early Times Report
BANIHAL, Jan 25 : Highway town Batote situated on Jammu Srinagar highway in district Ramban is going to lose its sheen and shine after the completion of Nashri-Chanani four lane tunnel this year. While this nine Km four lane tunnel is going to benefit thousands of passengers using National highway 1-A, people and especially business owners of the Batote town who thrived primarily on the highway are likely to face the pinch. More than 40 hotels, Dhabas and restaurants situated at the highway in this town are likely to lose their businesses once the tunnel is completed. The Maximum passengers travelling on Jammu Srinagar highway and also from erstwhile Doda district like Kishtwar, Bhaderwah and from Doda preferred to take a break and have lunch, dinner, tea and a rest at Batote as this place is situated in the middle of two capital cities of the State. Local citizens of Batote town are feeling that after the completion of this four lane tunnel this year, Batote town shall turn into a quiet town in place of a busy place that it has been for decades. The highway town of Batote has its historical importance also as during the regime of Maharaja, a health care center for TB patients was also established here. The locals of the Batote and its surrounding areas are now looking for alternative projects from the government so that, the historic town can retain its importance. |
